The future of IoT and DigitalTwin

What is Digital twin?

It basically means that a physical object is represented in adigital form. Generally considered as a replica of the original device. Analysts and data scientists who are in the IT field use the digital twin concept so that they can run simulations before actual devices are being
developed and deployed.

Initially, the manufacturing sector benefitted from theplatform of Digital twin technology and eventually, it broadened its horizons of which the Internet of Things (IoT) field is a potential one. The digital twin technology has also proved to be helpful in Artificial Intelligence (AI)
and data analytics platforms.

Following are a few key factors that depict as to what the future holds for IoT and digital twins:

1. Getting merged with AItechnologies: When simulationcapabilities of digital twins and data-generating capabilities of IoT are combined, the platform of AI can provide automated insights, predictions can be made and thus swift action can be taken.

2. Exploring new sectors: Currently, the applications are being used in industrieslike energy, manufacturing and healthcare. But, new sectors like education, agriculture and entertainment can also be explored. For example, a digital twin could be used by the farmers to know about crop yield prediction based on weather data that is being fed by IoT sensors.

3. Digital replicas being granular: There is a growth in computational capacity and hencesophisticated digital replicas can be created by the tools. Digital twins will
represent assets or broader systems to every minute detail of the physical
counterparts being mimicked. This would allow for forecasting, precise analysis
and troubleshooting aspects.

4. Considering the environment andsustainability: Entire ecosystems canbe simulated by digital twins and environmental changes can be predicted with
data from IoT sensors. Endangered species can be monitored or renewal energy
production can be optimized. The fusion of IoT and digital twins ensures that
both digital and physical realms are properly integrated.
